Russia strongly condemns any forms of terror, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said Friday in comments on the recent events surrounding the Red Mosque in Islamabad.

"Russia strongly condemns any forms and methods of terror, no matter how their instigators and organizers try to justify these crimes," Kamynin was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying.

A total of 102 people lost their lives during the Lal Masjid military operation in a mosque complex in the Pakistani capital, a Pakistani official said Friday.

"The reports that security officers and noncombatants were killed during the operation against the fighters causes our deep regret," Kamynin said.

"We expect the leaders of the key political forces and religious communities in Pakistan to display solidarity in facing the challenge issued by the terrorists," Kamynin said.
