The United States indicated on Monday that it is willing to wait for some time before more countries join hands for the settlement of Kosovo status. Reiterating U.S. stand to support to independence of Kosovo, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said "there should not be any mistake in what we see at the end result." "Within the confines of that, we want to try to bring on board as many parties as possible, including the Russians in this process." "If there is some time that might be needed in terms of weeks or months to discuss this, to see if we can arrive at some solution that gets the maximum buy in, then that is probably worth the time and effort," the spokesman said. Last week, France proposed for a six-month delay to try to convince the Serbian government to support the plan. Kosovo has been run by the United Nations since mid-1999, when NATO airstrikes halted a Serbian crackdown on independence-seeking ethnic Albanians and forced Belgrade to relinquish control. The United States and its European allies have been pressing Russia to accept a UN plan granting independence to Serbia's breakaway province of Kosovo.
