1st LD: Two car bombings rock central Baghdad

BAGHDAD, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Two car bomb explosions rocked central Baghdad on Sunday, killing at least two people and wounding five others, an Interior Ministry source said.

The first car bomb detonated around midday at a thoroughfare inthe Karradah neighborhood, killing one civilian and wounding threeothers, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Shortly afterwards, a second car bomb went off near the Hamraa Hotel, usually used by westerners in the Jadriya neighborhood, killing a civilian and wounding two others, the source added.

The blasts also damaged several nearby buildings and civilian cars, the source said.

But the source also warned of further death toll increase as the Iraqi security forces and ambulances are checking the scenes and evacuating casualties.

The attack came a day after a spate of deadly bombing attacks that claimed the 179 lives and wounded 286 others across the war-torn country.

Violence continued infesting the capital despite the U.S.-Iraqijoint crackdown on rampant violence in Baghdad.
