Lal Masjid claimed Sunday that around 300 religious students were killed in the overnight operation, but Pakistani TV channels said the death toll stood at 40.

Lal Masjid also said that two rooms of seminary in the mosque complex collapsed in the operation and fresh troops arrived at the mosque on Sunday morning.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf on Saturday said that the remaining militants in the mosque should lay down their weapons and surrender or they would be killed.
