China published a series of biographies on senior army officers, the first and the most complete documents in the 80-year history of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

The series, consisting of 40 volumes on biographies of 375 senior army officers, will be published within next two years. The first batch of 12 published volumes contains biographies of 90 most renowned senior army generals.

This is part of China's activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of its armed forces.

Those involved in the series had made great contributions to the establishment and development of the PLA and to the prosperity of New China, said Guo Boxiong, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, at a meeting marking the publication of the series held in Beijing on Thursday.

"They are worth remembered, and their life stories are helpful for Today's officers," he said.

The country also made a series of TV documentaries based on the biographies of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping and other army generals.
