An American soldier was killed and another wounded when a U.S. helicopter crashed in northern Iraq on Wednesday, the U.S. military said.

A Multi Natinal Corps-Iraq spokesman said that the incident took place in Nineveh province without saying why the helicopter went down, but said the incident is under investigation.

On Tuesday, the U.S. military said that another helicopter went down on Monday in an area in south of Baghdad after attacked by enemy fire.

Two pilots on board survived the attack with minor injuries by the crash, the military said.

More than 13 U.S. helicopters have crashed in Iraq so far this year, most of them brought down by hostile fire.
