Hong Kong stocks rose 483.25 points, or 2.43 percent to close at 20,377.27 Monday, as gains on Wall Street and a steady start in Shanghai markets after a week-long break boosted investor appetite for battered banking stocks.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index opened 2.61 percent higher at 20,407. The index once climbed more than 530 points and finished the session near the day-high, snapping a two-day decline.

Turnover was still low at 43.9 billion HK dollars (5.66 billion U.S. dollars).
