In the first half of 2009, three telecom operators including China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom invested a total of 80 billion yuan in 3G projects, boosting the development of upstream and downstream industries, reporters learned from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Since the issuing of 3G licenses earlier this year, the stimulation effect of investments in 3G has begun to show. In the first five months, for mobile base stations alone, 20.19 million units were produced, representing a year-on-year increase of 306 percent.
Since the issuing of 3G licenses, in the new mobile phone user market, the market share of China Mobile has gradually declined. By the end of June, its market share further dropped to 60.8 percent, lower than 93.3 percent at the end of last year. Thus, the imbalance in market competition has gradually improved.
