Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Commission Guo Boxiong on Thursday met with Head of Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports of Switzerland Ueli Maurer in the headquarters of armed forces in downtown Beijing.

"The Chinese side holds an active attitude toward the development of bilateral military ties," Guo said, noting that high-level exchanges of senior officers and exchanges and cooperation in specialized fields have enhanced the two sides' mutual understanding and trust.

The military ties will score new progress with the joint efforts of the two sides, Guo said.

Maurer said further understanding and cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries is very important to both sides.

Guo also spoke highly of the sound development of China-Switzerland relations since their establishment of diplomatic ties. He added that China is ready to join hands with Switzerland on the basis of mutual trust, equality and reciprocity and bring the bilateral friendship and cooperation to a new high.

Maurer said Switzerland and China share similar opinions on many issues. The Swiss side attaches importance on relations with China, and is ready to see that China plays a more important role in international issues.

This is Maurer's first visit to China since he took office.
