Bruneian Princess Hajah Masna was conferred the title "Friendship Ambassador" in Beijing on Monday for her contribution to China-Brunei ties.

Masna, also ambassador-at-large of Brunei's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, was recognized by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC).

At the ceremony, Gu Xiulian, president of China-ASEAN Association and senior advisor of CPAFFC, praised Masna's enduring efforts for cementing China-Brunei friendship and understanding between the two peoples over the years.

Masna said Brunei-China relations had grown by leaps and bounds since the two countries established diplomatic ties 20 years ago. The close bilateral cooperation and exchanges had brought the two peoples closer together and contributed to the everlasting friendship between the two countries.

"I am optimistic that our future cooperation will continue to elevate our relationship to even greater heights," she said.

The Friendship Ambassador title, established by the CPAFFC in 1990, is conferred to renowned international figures who have made great contributions to the friendship between China and foreign countries.

Other recipients of the title include late honorary President of the International Olympic Committee Juan Antonio Samaranch, British scholar Dr. Joseph Needham and Thai Princess Sirindhorn.
