Top Chinese legislator meets governor of France's Reunion

China's top Legislator Wu Bangguo on Wednesday met with Governor of France's Reunion Michel Lalande on advancing China-France ties.

Wu, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, the country's top legislature, stopped over at Reunion, a French island located in the Indian Ocean, on his way to visit three African countries of Namibia, Angola and South Africa as well as Maldives.

Conferring with Lalande, Wu praised the China-France relationship, expecting both sides to step up efforts to increase political trust, deepen substantive cooperation and boost sound and steady growth of bilateral ties.

Wu recalled the history with the growth of China-France ties, adding that more and more people have been travelling between China and Reunion despite the long distance.

"China and Reunion, whose friendship dated back to a long time ago, also witnessed stronger economic and trade cooperation in recent years," Wu said.

Wu also expressed his hope that Reunion could utilize its unique geographical location, rich resources in sea and tourism and advanced renewable energy technology in an aim to work closer with China in those fields.

Lalande welcomed Wu's stay in Reunion and agreed with Wu's views on bilateral cooperation in trade, culture, tourism and renewable energy.
