Yemen opposition welcomes China's support to GCC power-transition initiative

Yemeni opposition on Tuesday hailed China's position that supports a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) initiative to solve the political crisis in Yemen, opposition key media outlet Al-Sahwa reported.

"We welcome China's stance that supports the GCC initiative that proposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh to transfer power to his vice president," Al-Sahwa quoted opposition's spokesman Mohamed Qahtan as saying.

Earlier, the Yemeni government welcomed the position of the Chinese government towards the GCC initiative that ensures a smooth and peaceful power transition that maintain the security, stability and unity of Yemen, according to the state media.
