China's top legislator, Wu Bangguo, called on Saturday for deeper regional cooperation between China and France in various fields.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the remarks on Saturday during a meeting with visiting President of the National Assembly of France, Bernard Accoyer, in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

"With a solid foundation, regional cooperation between China and France has achieved positive results and also has great potential," Wu said, adding that China's development strategies for its western, central and other regions have created more space for China-France regional cooperation.

Wu further said he hoped that China's National People's Congress and the National Assembly of France could introduce more French companies to China's central and western regions and boost cooperation in tourism, environmental protection, poverty relief and other fields.

Accoyer said he felt China's prosperous development and the strong, friendly ties between the two countries during his stay here.

Accoyer added that the National Assembly of France was willing to make more concrete efforts in promoting the China-France cooperation at various levels and in differing fields.

Previously, Accoyer visited Xi'an, capital city of Shaanxi Province, and Beijing during his six-day trip.
