The secretaries meeting of the sixth Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) security councils meeting was held here on Friday.
The SCO has provided strong support for its member states in creating a stable security environment since its establishment 10 years ago, Chinese State Councilor Meng Jianzhu said.
As the factors affecting regional peace, stability and national security keep increasing, the SCO member states should continue to strengthen the organization's capacity building, tap the potential for security cooperation, enrich cooperation contents, and improve the quality of cooperation, said Meng, who is also China's public security minister.
The "three evils" (terrorism, extremism and separatism) remain a serious threat to regional security, which should be stricken along with drug-trafficking and other crimes, Meng said, adding that there is a realistic need for cooperation between the member states.
This meeting has laid a solid foundation for the upcoming SCO summit in June, which will mark the 10th anniversary of its establishment. China is ready to maintain close coordination and cooperation with all parties, to make greater contributions to maintaining peace, stability and prosperity of the region and the world at large, Meng said.
The meeting was hosted by Kazakh Presidential Aide and Security Council Secretary Marat Tajin. The secretaries of the security council from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan also attended the meeting.
The meeting ends with a decision to further strengthen the coordinating role of the secretaries meeting within the SCO framework.
