Chinese President Hu Jintao met here Thursday with Bernard Accoyer, speaker of the French National Assembly.

During the half-hour meeting, President Hu pledged to enhance bilateral, regional and multinational cooperation with France to cope with global challenges and promote the comprehensive strategic partnership.

"China and France, as both members of the Security Council of the United Nations and of the Group of 20, share broad common interests and cooperation prospects as the world situation is changing dramatically and with global challenges emerging," he said.

The Chinese government supports the two legislatures to strengthen exchanges and cooperation, he said, urging the legislative bodies to offer suggestions and build substantial cooperation so to further bilateral ties.

Accoyer, who is on his first visit to China, hailed the strengthening bilateral ties and friendship since the two states established diplomatic relations in 1964.

He suggested the two sides extend cooperation in nuclear energy, aviation, machinery and electronics production, culture, education and healthcare.

Before his stay in Beijing, Accoyer visited the ancient capital city of Xi'an in northwest China at the start of his six-day trip. He will also travel to southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and China's financial hub of Shanghai.
