Iranian president meets senior Chinese legislator, vows to boost ties

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad met with Senior Chinese legislator Chen Zhili here on Saturday and vowed to boost bilateral ties.

Ahmadinejad asked Chen to convey his greetings to Chinese President Hu Jintao, saying Iran and China both have long history and bilateral relations in various areas have gained good momentum in recent years.

Iran, which sees a bright prospect in bilateral cooperation and attaches a great deal of importance to Sino-Iran relations, hopes to further promote bilateral ties to benefit the two peoples and maintain world and regional peace and stability, he added.

Chen, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, agreed with Ahmadinejad's comments on Sino-Iran relations, and conveyed greetings and good wishes from Chinese President Hu Jintao.

Chen said bilateral ties have been developing smoothly, and cooperation in areas including politics, culture, trade and economy have gained fruitful achievements.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. On this occasion, China is willing to seize this opportunity to further consolidate political mutual trust, enhance cooperation between the two sides' legislative bodies, enrich connotation of bilateral ties, deepen friendship between the two peoples, and promote Sino-Iran relations to a new high, Chen said.

Chen arrived here Sunday for a friendly visit at the invitation of the Iranian Majlis (parliament).
