China disapproves of any act beyond the authorization of the United Nations Security Council, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Friday.

Hong Lei made the remarks when responding to recent reports saying that Britain will send military officers to Libya, according to a press release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

"China has noticed related reports. The UN Security Council shoulders the prime responsibility of safeguarding international peace and security," Hong said.

"Parties concerned should act in strict accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions," Hong added.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Tuesday that the country is sending a group of military officers to Libya to advise rebel forces "on how to better protect civilians," stressing that the officers "will not be involved in training or arming the opposition's fighting forces."
