China, Vietnam vow to improve bilateral ties

Vietnam hopes to join hands with China to strengthen coordination and consultation, broaden practical cooperation to open up new prospects for the Vietnam- China overall strategic partnership, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said Wednesday.

Dung made the remarks during his reception for General Guo Boxiong, Vice-Chairman of China's Central Military Commission.

With increasing contact between Vietnam and China in recent years, the relationship between the two countries has developed into a new era. Vietnam will always improve and consolidate the friendly cooperation between the two countries, Dung said.

Guo extended the Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao's greeting to Dung, saying the Chinese and Vietnamese people fight shoulder to shoulder and forge profound friendship through the national independence and liberation.

He said the China-Vietnam military relations have developed in a steady way in recent years, contributing to the social and economic development of the two countries.

Guo said that China and Vietnam should join hands to strengthen unity and cooperation, seek common ground and properly handle differences, to ensure the sustained, sound and steady growth of the China-Vietnam relationship to the greater benefits of the peoples.

At the invitation of Vietnamese Defense Minister and Senior General Phung Quang Thanh, General Guo Boxiong arrived in Hanoi on Tuesday for a three-day visit.
