Red Cross Society of China donates cash assistance for quake-hit victims in Myanmar

Li Junhua, Chinese ambassador to Myanmar Monday donated 50,000 U.S dollars cash and kind to Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) on behalf of Red Cross Society of China for relief and recovery efforts in northeastern part of the country hit by recent major earthquake.

These cash were handed over to president of MRCS Dr.Tha Hla Shwe at the Embassy of China.

Li conveyed sympathy to the victims of Myanmar on behalf of Red Cross Society of China over the loss of life and property caused by the natural disaster.

The president of MRCS was also grateful to their donation as humanitarian assistance through the Chinese embassy.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government had donated 500,000 USD for rehabilitation work in the quake-hit region.

During the recent visit of Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, he offered a batch of materials along with his special plane for the disaster relief.

A strong earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale jolted Loimwe, 56 kilometers southeast of Kengtung in northeastern Myanmar on March 24.

The quake's epicenter, at 10 kilometers deep, struck in the hills of Myanmar bordering Thailand and Laos, the Golden Triangle.

According to officially released death toll, 73 people were killed and 125 others injured.
