China's fifth engineering peacekeeping detachment to Sudan's Darfur reached its destination in mid-March and completed the construction tasks assigned by the Sector South Command Headquarters of the African Union-U.N. Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in around two weeks.

The mission has earned the detachment high praise from the U.N. officials and peacekeepers from other countries. The UNAMID Sector South commander reviewed China's fifth peacekeeping detachment to the city on March 26 (local time).

The commander has spoken highly of Chinese peacekeepers in Sudan's Darfur. He praised China as a responsible power and said the Chinese peacekeepers have made outstanding contributions to the peacekeeping mission in Darfur. He added that they have provided local residents with pragmatic benefits.

They have also offered convenience to not only the UNAMID mission but also to areas in southern Darfur and even to all residents of the Sudan. He told the Chinese peacekeepers, "You come from a beautiful and peace-loving country and welcome to Nyala."

Following the inspection, the commander watched the campground defense drills by the Chinese peacekeepers and listened to their reports. He also wrote an inscription for China's fifth batch of Chinese peacekeepers in Darfur that reads, "I am deeply impressed with the accomplishments made by Chinese peacekeepers in Sudan. The performance of Chinese soldiers is excellent," reaffirming the comprehensive quality of Chinese peacekeepers.

After the inspection, the Chinese peacekeepers will head to three areas to simultaneously initiate construction tasks.
