The British trade minister said Wednesday that Europe and China can learn from each other on questions of expertise and management techniques.

Lord Green used the example of Wang Jianzhou, chairman and CEO of China Mobile, who was named company director of the year at the GSMA Mobile Awards during the 2011 Mobile World Congress on Tuesday.

"This is a reminder to the people in Europe that this isn't just a matter of high-tech European competence being shared with China. We can both learn from each other," Lord Green told Xinhua.

The minister spoke in favor of increased economic cooperation with China when Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang visited Britain last month.

"I think this is a case of a partnership: as Britain comes out of the crisis, it is developing a new and balanced growth model for the economy. It is a model where Britain needs to be competitive internationally. Britain is an open economy and a welcoming economy for foreign investment. Chinese investment has been significant, especially in telecommunications," the minister said.

Lord Green said Huawei has become a significant part of the British scene and conversely there are a number of British companies doing business in China.

"These things are signs of a growing cooperation; my perspective extends far into the future," he said.

The minister said the telecommunications sector is extremely important to Britain and "there is a very exciting partnership between Britain and China."

He said he expects that the mobile communications industry will have a significant impact over the next few years.

"It is going to change the way that so many businesses operate and so many services are delivered to the public," Lord Green said. "You think about health services for the elderly, about transport and smart cars, energy and smart meters. It is going to change business models across the whole economy."
