Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) General Director Adnana Mahmoud said Wednesday that Syria is keen on boosting media ties with China.

"Syria is very keen on building strategic relations with China, and media is one of the strategic means to carry out this approach and boost ties in different domains," Mahmoud said during an interview with Xinhua in Damascus.

SANA launched its service in Chinese on Monday, hoping this will help Chinese readers to get a closer view of Syria.

"This is based on Syria's strategic vision in its relations with China as one of the most important countries in the world and China's rich experience in reform and development," said Mahmoud.

Mahmoud also hailed the agreement on cooperation and exchanging news and specialized bulletins in economic, investment and tourist fields in addition to photo services, which was inked between SANA and Xinhua in September 2010.

According to China's Ministry of Commerce, Chinese-Syrian trade volume surged from 220 million U.S. dollars in 2001 to 2.2 billion dollars last year.
