Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang's visit to Britain is fruitful and of great importance to the development of the Sino-British relations, said Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying on Wednesday.
At the conclusion of Li's four-day visit to Britain, Fu noted that the vice premier is the first Chinese leader to visit Britain since the British coalition government was formed last May.
During his stay, Li held talks with Prime Minister David Cameron and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, and met with other British cabinet members, to discuss bilateral relations, economic and trade cooperation and other issues of mutual interest. The two countries also signed agreements on energy and financial cooperation worth a total of 4.68 billion U.S. dollars.
According to Fu, Li has stressed that China and Britain should adhere to the principle of equality and mutual respect in the political field so as to enhance mutual understanding and trust. He also suggested that China and Britain cooperate more closely and strengthen policy coordination in international affairs, to help promote a strong, balanced and sustainable world economic development.
Fu said that both sides also agreed to seek new channels and areas of economic and trade cooperation, including expanding cooperation on infrastructure construction, high technology, green industry and financial services. Meanwhile, China and Britain also agreed that cooperation on education, culture and sports should be strengthened, the official added.
