Li also promised China's support to the unity, prosperity and stability of the EU during its current economic difficulties, saying that China is ready to work hand in hand with the European bloc to deal with the crisis, and achieve mutual benefit and a win-win result.

For her part, Merkel spoke highly of the development of Germany's ties with China as well as China's solid development.

Calling the Germany-China relations very close, she praised the fruitful results in bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Merkel also welcomed China's support for Spain and other EU countries in their fight against the European sovereign debt crisis, pledging that the European nations will firmly defend the euro and never retreat from the EU integration process.

Li, who arrived in Berlin Thursday for a four-day visit, met with German President Christian Wulff on Friday morning. After talking with Merkel, he met German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle and attended a signing ceremony of cooperation deals between the two countries.

Li came to Germany from Spain. He will later travel to Britain, the last leg of his three-nation Europe tour.
