Ecuadorian president meets Chinese state councilor on ties

Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa on Monday met visiting Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong to promote the relations between the two countries.

Liu first conveyed President Hu Jintao's cordial greetings and good wishes to President Correa. She said since China and Ecuador forged diplomatic ties 30 years ago, bilateral relations have developed smoothly.

The two countries have strengthened their political mutual trust, expanded their trade and economic cooperation and maintained even closer exchanges and cooperation in culture and education. Both countries have also kept good coordination and cooperation in international affairs, she added.

China and Ecuador are both developing countries. It is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples to strengthen their mutually beneficial cooperation, she said.

China is willing avail itself of the 30th anniversary of bilateral ties and join hands with Ecuador to continuously push forward their relations, she added.

In recent years, China-Ecuador exchanges in education, science and technology, and culture have been increasing, which has become an important component of bilateral relations, she said.

China was willing to work with Ecuador to widen cooperation in education, further enhance personnel training and exchanges between institutions of higher learning and continue to promote Confucius Institutes, Liu said.

China would also broaden and deepen cooperation with Ecuador in science and technology, intensify exchanges in mechanism building and outcome promotion, and conduct cultural exchanges in various forms to enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, she said.

Correa asked Liu to extend his cordial greetings to President Hu.
