The new cultural complex built in Islamabad by China is to promote exchanges among students, media and academic circles from the two countries.

Wen laid a foundation for the center during his first visit to Pakistan in 2005.

After the inauguration, the two leaders launched the Pakistan-China Friendship Bringing-Light Tour, a move sponsored by Beijing Tongren Hospital and some Chinese companies in Pakistan to have free cataract surgery for 1,000 Pakistani patients in two years.

Addressing the ceremony, Wen welcomed the patients to tour China after their recovery, to witness the achievements and the bright future of the friendly cooperation between the two countries.

Gilani said he appreciated the Chinese initiative, noting that it is a symbol for their bilateral friendship and would help cement people-to-people contacts.

Wen and Gilani attended a symposium at the center with people who have contributed to China-Pakistan friendship, and visited a photography exhibition highlighting the history of the bilateral relations.

Outside the complex, the two leaders planted a China-Pakistan friendship tree.

Wen arrived in Islamabad on Friday for a three-day visit after wrapping up a visit to India.
