Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan held separate meetings in Washington on Wednesday with U.S. Senator Kit Bond, and Congressmen Rick Larsen and Charles Boustany on ways to boost bilateral cooperation.

Wang said building a positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-U.S. relationship for the 21st century is an important consensus reached between the top leaders of the two countries and also reflects the common aspirations of the two peoples.

The 21st meeting of the U.S.-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) was a success thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, giving a fresh impetus to economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, he said.

The two countries should continue to enhance practical cooperation in such fields as economy and trade and investment, he said. Wang also hoped that U.S. Congressmen would make full use of their influence and make new contributions to the healthy and stable development of bilateral ties.

Bond, vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, as well as Larsen and Boustany, both chairs of the bipartisan U.S.-China Working Group at Congress, offered congratulations on the positive outcome of the 21st JCCT meeting.

They also expressed willingness to strengthen communication and cooperation with the Chinese side and work together to advance China-U.S. relations.

Also on Wednesday, speaking at a reception held by U.S. business circles, Wang said China would strive to create a fair, equitable and transparent investment environment for foreign-funded enterprises.

The Chinese vice premier arrived here Monday for the two-day 21st JCCT meeting, which ended on Wednesday with the signing of a number of bilateral agreements.
