Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi sent a message of condolence Tuesday to his New Zealand counterpart Murray McCully over the earthquake that occurred in Christchurch.
A 7.1-magnitude quake hit Christchurch on New Zealand's South Island Saturday, leaving two people seriously injured. A number of aftershocks occurred in the region, which damaged an estimated 100,000 houses.
