The Chilean government places special emphasis on its ties with China, Government Secretary General Ena Von Baer told Xinhua Wednesday.

"For us, the ties with China are highly important. In fact, three ministers of this government have made work trips to China," the secretary general said.

"President Sebastian Pinera has paid special attention to the ties with China, because for one side, we can learn a lot and at the same time give a lot to that Asian country," she said.

Baer noted that this year marked the 40th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic relations, stressing economic and cultural exchanges were of great importance to both.

She said recent years have seen an increase in academic exchanges between Chile and China.

The secretary general made the remarks after meeting with a Chinese delegation led by Hao Shiyuan, who is deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Most of the scholars in the Chinese delegation came from Tibet, and the visit was aimed at promoting mutual understanding between the two peoples and introducing Tibetan history and religion.
