Senior Chinese, Mexican lawmakers promise to boost ties

Senior Mexican and Chinese lawmakers say they will work for more exchanges at the congressional level to help bring ties between the two countries to a new level.

Oyunqemag, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said Thursday that it is in China's interests to boost ties with Mexico.

China is willing to work with Mexico on bilateral exchanges and cooperation, she said when meeting with Carlos Navarrete Ruiz, speaker of the Mexican Senate, and Francisco Ramirez Acuna, president of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower legislative house.

The NPC is also willing to have more exchanges with Mexico, Oyunqemag said.

Navarrete and Ramirez said that ties between the legislative bodies of Mexico and China are important and that they would like to further bilateral cooperation via parliamentary forums.

The Mexican lawmakers also offered condolences to those affected by the devastating earthquake in Yushu in China's northwestern Qinghai province.

Oyunqemag, who also met with other senior Mexican lawmakers on Thursday,arrived in here late Wednesday on a trip that will also take her to Cuba and Brazil.
