China is ready to work with Peru to deepen bilateral cooperation for mutual benefit, Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang said Friday.

During a meeting with visiting Peruvian Foreign Minister Jose Garcia Belaunde, Zhang said China was willing to take the advantage of bilateral free trade agreement to advance cooperation in various fields.

The China-Peru Free Trade Agreement took effect on March 1. It is China's second free trade deal with a Latin American country after Chile.

Hailing the development of bilateral relationship, Zhang said the Chinese government attached importance to promoting China-Peru relationship.

Garcia said Peru will continue to enhance exchanges and cooperation with China to expand the strategic partnership between the two countries.

In recent years, the two countries enjoyed deepening friendly cooperation in areas such as politics, trade, economy and culture, he said.

China has emerged as Peru's second-biggest trade partner, according to China's Ministry of Commerce.
