Myanmar-Chinese hold lion dance competitions to celebrate lunar new year

Myanmar-Chinese residing in Myanmar's biggest city of Yangon began holding traditional lion dance competitions Monday evening in celebration of the lunar new year.

The four-day competition in the heart of Chinatown in the city, features 12 amateur lion dancing teams.

According to the organizers, the first and second prize-winning teams will be awarded "lion-head" bought from Singapore and will repeat their performances at the prize presentation ceremony.

Such competitions have been held annually in Yangon since 2006.
