Three stand trial for Inner Mongolian prison break, murder

Three prisoners who killed a guard while escaping from an Inner Mongolian jail in October 2009 stood trial in HOHHOt Thursday on charges of breaking out of prison, murder, stealing, robbery and kidnapping.

A total of four prisoners escaped from the Hohhot No. 2 Prison at around 1 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2009. Police shot dead one of the escapees and apprehended the other three after a 66-hour manhunt.

The four were aged 21 to 28. Two of them were serving suspended death sentences while the other two were serving life imprisonment, police said.

The trial is estimated to last two days. No exact date was given.
