British Shadow Foreign Secretary William Hague vowed on Tuesday his Conservative Party would boost strong and effective relationship with China.

In a dialogue with Chinese university students in Beijing, Hague said his party would seek closer cooperation with China in economy, employment, education and strategic matters.

He encouraged closer youth exchanges between the two countries. Currently some 85,000 Chinese students are studying in the UK, he said, adding it serves as a very good example for future cooperation between the two countries.

Considering climate change and proliferation as the two greatest threats to human welfare and peace, Hague said he hopes the upcoming Copenhagen summit could yield a binding agreement for the whole world on carbon emissions cut.
