China and the Netherlands Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding on police cooperation in fighting crime.

The MoU was signed by China's Public Security Minister Meng Jianzhu and visiting Dutch Interior Minister Guusje ter Horst.

Before signing the document, the two officials had in-depth talks on issues such as transnational crime and illegal immigration, drug controls, terrorism and coordination in case investigation.

During the talks, Meng said law enforcement cooperation was in the common interests of both countries as bilateral trade and personnel exchanges increased.

He said the pragmatic cooperation between China's Public Security Ministry and the Netherlands' Interior Ministry in the area of cross-border crime and illegal immigration had yielded fruitful results.

He hoped the two sides would take advantage of the MoU to expand cooperation and jointly fight transnational crime and international terrorist activities, so as to better safeguard lives and property.

Horst said the Netherlands attached great importance to developing cooperation with China on law enforcement and agreed to step up cooperation in fighting narcotics, terrorism and transnational crime.
