The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has expressed willingness to foster close corporation with China's state Xinhua News Agency.

Remi Oyo, managing director of NAN told Xinhua in an interview that the Nigerian agency is the major media contents provider in West African countries since its establishment in 1976 and enjoys strong partnership with the Xinhua News Agency.

Oyo, the former spokesperson to ex-Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, said NAN looks forward to strengthening the existing bilateral relations between the two sides. She stressed the need for exchanges of personnel between the two agencies.

She said no media houses know the country better than NAN does, noting that NAN has over 350 reporters covering the 36 state of the federation.

NAN enjoys strong partnership with Xinhua News Agency, she reiterated.

Oyo recalled her visits to China and the Xinhua News Agency in September last year, when she held talks with Xinhua Vice President Zhou Xisheng. NAN has been able to start its multimedia program with the wisdom of Xinhua, she said.

This year, she said, NAN sent a three-staff delegation to Beijing to attend the World News Media Summit, which showed a new horizon for NAN.

She said NAN will follow Xinhua's development in building itself in the coming years.
