Chinese VP calls for enhanced China-Romania economic, trade cooperation

Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Monday called for enhanced mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Romania.

Addressing the China-Romania Economic and Trade Forum, Xi spoke highly of the 60-year diplomatic ties between the two countries, saying the bilateral relations have enjoyed sound momentum.

Xi said that Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to Romania in 2004 has raised the level of the bilateral relations to comprehensive friendly partnership of cooperation.

He cited several figures to expound the importance of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, which included the bilateral trade volume that exceeded 3.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2008, almost 10 times as much as that of 2000.

In addition, China's overall investment in Romania has surpassed 300 million dollars by June this year, he said.

Under the current circumstances, Xi said that the two countries need to discuss thoroughly their future cooperation from the strategic and long-term perspective to elevate the bilateral cooperation of mutual benefit.
