Wang Yongqiu, head of the Chinese Delegation told Xinhua that being a genuine friend of the Pacific island nations, China is dedicated to foster a future-oriented relationship with them.

The Pacific island states, endowed with vast sea areas and abundant resources, share economic complementarities with China who has technical expertise and a vast market, Wang said.

"At a time when financial crisis continues to worsen and traditional and non-traditional security problems are getting increasingly prominent, China stands ready to conduct closer exchanges between governments, parliaments, political parties and peoples," he added.

Both located in the Asia-Pacific region, China is also ready to deepen pragmatic cooperation in trade and economy, establish and pursue a partnership of mutual benefit so as to make greater contribution to regional stability and prosperity, said Wang.

The Forum addresses to common concern in the pacific region, such as regional trade, fisheries, renewable energy, regional partnership and assistance, pacific security, sexual violence, radioactive contaminants, Influenza A/H1N1 and the historic sporting ties that can help build strong communities in the region.
