The Shanghai Super Express, a high-speed container vessel that operates between the Port of Shanghai and the Port of Hakata in Japan, completed its 50th round trip on February 10, arriving at the Luojing Second Phase Terminal in Shanghai. Its smooth operation for almost half a year marks the estabilishment of the China-Japan express shipping passage, according to CNR.CN.
The Shanghai Super Express operates two round trips between China and Japan every week. Freight shipping speed is comparable to air shipping, but shipping costs and freight capacity are far better compared to using airplanes. It takes only about 23 hours for the vessel to sail from Shanghai to Hakata, Japan, and less than five hours for it to berth and finish loading and unloading. It is one of the most advanced container freighters in the world, both for the method of loading and unloading and for the route speed. In addition, the Shanghai Super Express has achieved a "next-day delivery" service for goods in large quantities. Wusong border inspection authorities in Shanghai provide 24 hour on-board service for handling entry and exit paperwork. As soon as the freighter arrives at port, inspection officials board the vessel to handle the entry paperwork so as to facilitate quick loading and unloading.
