The number of enrolled Chinese students studying in Australia has exceeded 100,000, making them the largest group of foreign students in the country. That means one out of four foreign students in Australia is Chinese.
According to the information on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zhang Junsai, the Chinese ambassador in Australia made comment on this during a speech at the forum of the Chinese Education Center in Sydney University in which he reviewed the education achievements made through the exchange and cooperation between China and Australia throughout the 36-year period after the two countries established diplomatic relations with one another.
Zhang said that the most obvious change in the 36 years was that more and more Chinese students had come to Australia to study. "When I was residing in Sydney in 1991, I rarely saw Chinese students. But now, you can see Chinese faces in almost every university in Australia," the Chinese ambassador said.
