President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan will attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games on Aug. 8, a spokesman of the Kazakh foreign ministry said Monday.

Nazarbayev is also scheduled to watch some Kazakh athletes in action at the Games.

Earlier, Nazarbayev had said the Beijing Olympics will turn a new page for global sports in the 21st century.
