Chinese and Arab media should serve as a bridge and connection to boost the understanding, trust and friendship between the people of two sides, a senior Chinese information official said here on Thursday.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the Arab League (AL) information ministers Council session, Wang Chen, head of the State Council Information Office of China, called for boosting the cooperation between Chinese and Arab media to promote bilateral understanding, mutual trust and friendship.
The Chinese minister cited the success of the first Forum on China-Arab information cooperation jointly organized by his office and the Cairo-based AL secretariat in April in Beijing as a good example of China-Arab media cooperation.
He expected to boost such cooperation between the two sides.
Wang also briefed the participants on China's ongoing earthquake relief efforts. He said he welcomes the Arab media to Beijing to cover the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games on Aug. 8.
Wang, who arrived here on Tuesday at the invitation of AL, also met AL Secretary General Amr Moussa on the sidelines of the council session, who expected to strengthen Arab-China information cooperation.
The AL chief also expressed his sympathy and condolence to China for the deadly earthquake in the southwest province of Sichuan on May 12, as well as best wishes and expectations to the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games.
