British Finance Minister, Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling, visited southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, showing his special interest in the local rural financial development.
Darling said that Chongqing, as one of the important Chinese municipalities, would make its significant contribution to boost Chinese economy. Darling expressed his hope that the United Kingdom (UK) could forge cooperation with Chongqing on experiments for a coordinated development among rural and urban regions.
The UK had a special interest in stepping up exchange and cooperation with Chongqing in field of rural financial service, the finance minister added.
As a part of his visit program, Darling also attended a roundtable meeting with representatives from Chongqing governmental departments and local financial institutions. He also visited a farmhouse in Chongqing suburb in an effort to understand the financial services in China's rural areas.
Darling arrived in Beijing on Monday afternoon for the first China-UK economic and financial dialogue.
