Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Tuesday sent a congratulatory message to Yousuf Raza Gillani on his being elected as Pakistan's prime minister.

Gillani, vice president of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), was elected Pakistan's new prime minister Monday. He was sworn in Tuesday.

The PPP emerged as the largest party in the Pakistan National Assembly in the general election held on Feb. 18, some 50 days after its leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a suicide attack.
