The British division competition of the Seventh "Chinese Bridge" world university student's Chinese language competition was held on the 15th at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
The theme of this year's competition is "Welcome Olympic Games in China." Eleven competitors from eight famous educational institutes including the University of Cambridge, University of London, and Nottingham University participated in this competition. The competition lasted nearly three hours; and the tasks included a speech on a self-selected topic, cultural knowledge quiz and talent competition. During the fierce competition, the competitors demonstrated their talents very well. During the talent competition portion, they performed crosstalk; recited poetry recitation; played allegro; sang Chinese songs; and performed with Taiji swords. They all put on eye-opening performances. Frances Geligeli from the University of Cambridge won first prize.
Ministry Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in London Wang Yongda said that current Chinese-British relations are in their best historical period. More and more people are interested in Chinese language in Great Britain. Britain now has 11 Confucius Institutes and 12 Confucius classrooms. Many schools offer Chinese language courses. The "Chinese Bridge" project has been held seven times, and has played a role in promoting the study of Chinese and the understanding of Chinese culture among the British. It also has promoted the development of Chinese -British relations.
