Niger's President Mamadou Tandja met here Monday with visiting Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun on bilateral ties and cooperation, according to news from Niamey.
China and Niger have enjoyed a good bilateral relationship since the two countries resumed diplomatic ties over a decade ago, said Zhai.
Tandja, who has a high regard for Niger-China relations, attended the Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in November 2006, said Zhai.
His presidency effectively promoted Niger's comprehensive cooperation with China by reaching a consensus on a wide range of issues and on bilateral ties with Chinese President Hu Jintao, said Zhai.
Zhai spoke highly of Niger's steadfast stance in adhering to the one-China policy, saying that China will continue working closely with Niger to carry out the consensuses of the two leaders and the decisions reached in the Beijing summit.
Tandja, for his part, said that China and Niger have made fruitful achievements in their friendly cooperation in many fields over these years, adding that his country is thankful for China's long-term support.
Niger will continue to recognize the one-China policy and will always work to strengthen its friendly cooperation with China, Tandja said.
