Overseas Chinese entrepreneurs will become more competitive in conducting transnational investment and cooperation on the backdrop of accelerating economic globalization and regional economic cooperation, an official with the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (OCAO) of the State Council said Sunday.

Li Haifeng, head of the OCAO, made the remarks at the 9th Introduction of Projects Southwest to Asean Overseas Chinese Investors and the Asia-Pacific Chinese Entrepreneurs Forum held in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province.

"For the past few years, Asean overseas Chinese entrepreneurs have played a vanguard role in pushing forward the Asean regional economic integration," she said.

Also, China's reform and opening-up drive will provide a broader investment prospective for overseas Chinese investors endowed with both Chinese and foreign cultural backgrounds, she noted.

Embracing the new round of China's west development strategy, southwest regions will become the forefront of the country's reform and opening up drive and the new growth engine of national economy, she added.

The 9th Introduction of Projects Southwest to Asean Overseas Chinese Investors and the Asia-Pacific Chinese Entrepreneurs Forum, with the theme "Focusing on West China, Seeking Cooperation and Development" this year, aims to promote exchanges and cooperation between Chinese overseas entrepreneurs and the country's southwest regions.

About 500 overseas Chinese investors from 28 countries and regions attended the forum.
