Emergency drought relief starts in Jiangxi Province

In response to the severe drought in Jiangxi Province, the China National Committee for Disaster Reduction and Ministry of Civil Affairs initiated the national emergency disaster program on May 29 and sent out a work team to the drought–hit regions to assist in disaster relief.

According to the report released by the local civil affairs department, the recent disastrous drought has caused living hardships for nearly 1.12 million people.

During May, the central government allocated 55 million yuan of subsidizes to solve the drinking water and food shortages for local residents.

As of May 29, the drought has caused difficulties for 1.75 million people living in Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, who are in need of urgent assistance.
