Launched by the World Health Oragnization (WHO) in 1987, the World No Tobacco Day will mark its 24th anniversary on May 31, 2011. WHO has selected "The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control," considered the world's primary tobacco control instrument, as the theme of this year's No Tobacco Day.

"2011 China Tobacco Control Report" was released by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention on May 26. The report claimed that all levels of the government have reached the consensus that the adoption of regulations and laws is an effective way to curb smoking habits. At present, about 740 million people are affected by second-hand smoke, and public places have turned out to be the worst places where people are suffering from it.

On May 26, China Health Education Center and sina.com.cn jointly initiated an event focusing on smoking within the medical care and health system, hoping to use the Internet to promote the implementation of smoking bans in all indoor public places.
