Ye Zhiping, headmaster of the Sangzao Middle School, who is also hailed as "the best headmaster in history" for guaranteeing the safety of all students and teachers in his school during the Wenchuan earthquake, witnessed the "Dream School" has been transformed from an idea to reality.

The badly damaged Sangzao Middle School has been reconstructed at a different location three years after the Wenchuan earthquake, bringing back the sounds of children reading.

During the earthquake, Sangzao Middle School lost its main teaching building with a floor area of 13,000 square meters and almost all its teaching facilities, amounting to more than 25 million yuan in damages.

Ye began to seriously draw up the blueprints of the "Dream School" when he heard that the school might be reconstructed at a different location. However, he calculated that the construction of the new school would need a budget of at least 30 million yuan and was worried that the government will not approve his plan because of the enormous figure.

Ye did not believe the construction budget for the new Sangzao Middle School had reached nearly 48 million yuan, which is more than 10 million yuan higher than his "bold" expectation, until he saw the announcement in the An County Government Service Hall.

The construction of the new school began on May 4, 2009 and was completed on Dec. 22, 2009. Teachers and students officially began attending classes in the new school on Jan. 17, 2010.

Ye said that the construction of the new school adhered to three principles, namely firm and solid, simple and practical, as well as energy conservation and environmental protection.

Ye also plans to construct a library to allow students that are thirsty for knowledge to have a quiet place to read books. The library will also open to the public for free to allow ordinary people to experience the charm of culture.
